Letter R

Letter R is for rainbow. I found an outline of an Uppercase R and blew it up into a full page size. We went over the order of colors in a rainbow and I used the name Roy G Bp to help them remember the order. Already cut out strips of construction paper of the rainbow colors and the students glued those strips onto the R in the order of the rainbow. After they dried I cut it out each or one by one myself.

Letter O

Letter O is for owl. I found a template to make an owl and the students put it together.

Turkey in disguise

To hang up in our hallways for the month of November we did the project a turkey in disguise. Below are the instructions we sent home for parents along with The turkey picture and orange construction paper. The students could use whatever they wanted to decorate their turkey into something else to disguise it.

Here are some examples of what the students brought in.

If I were a turkey

For the month of November we created a class book called if I were a turkey. Students filled in the blank of where they thought a turkey could hide so that they would not become Thanksgiving dinner. They also illustrated their idea.

Grace before meals

I found this easy to do paper to help remember grace before meals. I already printed it out on a piece of paper the prayer and students were able to go through magazines and cut out different foods to put around the prayer.

Clifford the big red dogs birthday

For Clifford the big red dog's birthday on February 15th, I made a poster of the author Norman Birdwell with facts about himself and Clifford.

Letter N

Letter an is for numbers. The students went through magazines and cut out any numbers they saw and glued them into their letter N.

Letter P

P is for polkadots. All I did was cut out circles and they were able to put as many polkadots on the P as wanted.

Word wall tree

This is our word wall trees. On each leaf the students were to write a word wall word. On the bottom I put "my fall tree of words I can read!"

Ask 3 before me

This is an anchor chart in progress. We started talking about what we should do if I'm not available for them to answer questions. This kind of anchor chart can always be added to.

Real reading vs fake reading

My class recently started doing readers workshop. This is an anchor chart of real reading versus fake reading. This was the first lesson we did for readers workshop. I also added pictures of students doing each of the real reading tips.

Christmas cookie tray

To work on our addition we made cookie trays and added up all the cookies on our tray. I used tin foil for the tray and cut out different Christmas shapes.

Santa stuck in chimney

Together we came up with a list of different ways to help Santa if he was stuck in our chimney. We did a rough draft of what we chose in our journal and then did a good copy to put on our craft. I already had cut out chimneys and the bottom of Santa's pants and his boots. You could also add cotton balls to the top of Santa's boots.

People addition from magazines

This is an easy way to review addition. We used magazines to cut out groups of people of two or more to make an addition sentence. I gave the choice of making dots underneath each person to help count the total of how many people are on their paper.

Mouse shapes fill in the blank

After reading the book Mouse Shapes, I made this fill in the blank with shape choices as a group review.

And as you can see by the word stars being misspelled we tried spelling it together instead of looking it up.

Maps

For social studies lesson on maps we created our own map of our school and our neighborhood along with a map key and a compass Rose.

Five senses jack-o'-lanterns

These jack-o'-lanterns can come out very creative. We made these after talking about our five senses. Each student searched through magazines to find different parts of the body for the five senses and made faces from human body parts onto a pumpkin.

Jack-o'-lanterns

After explaining the meaning of Halloween and all hollows eve, we made these jack-o'-lanterns with faces on one side and a cross on the back. I precut shapes for the jack-o'-lantern faces and they were able to pick what shape they wanted to use for their face.

Santa hat ornament

Another Christmas ornament we made was a Santa Claus hat with their picture on the front. On the one side we glued wrapping paper on top of the Stana Hat. We also added Cotton to make the white part of the Santa hat.
On the other side each student glued on a picture of themselves in front of our class Christmas tree.

Handprint Wreath

For the students Christmas present to their parents we need a handprint wreath. I pressed both of their hands together four times in a circle and they used their thumb to make the holly berries. In the middle We put a poem and at the bottom of the wreath we glued on a bow.
Here is the poem.

Letter B

For the letter B I cut out some baseballs, baseball gloves, and baseball bats. This Student made their B very cute and clever. Thet turned their B into a baseball player!

Letter F

The letter F project is very simple. Just Trace an upper case F and give out some fish and let them glue  it wherever they want.

Letter Stocking

This is a very easy and still educational project for Christmas. Just give each student a letter at the top of the stocking and give them some magazines to look through to find pictures that start with the letter they are given.

Santa Ornament

I absolutely love These Christmas ornaments we made for our parents!  We made handprint Santa's on the front and on the back is a cute poem.

Letter D

For the Letter D we learned about the different food groups and the one that we talked about the most was the dairy food group. They decorated their letter with different foods from the dairy group.

Letter I

For the letter I this week we learned about insects. For this project I gave each student three different shapes, they got to choose what shapes they wanted to make the parts of an insect body. They then got to decorate their insect an add on the appropriate body parts of an insect. Afterwards we named our insects and these kids can come up with clever names like Pizza Head and Eddie the insect haha

Mr. Turkey addition

For this project I gave each student six feathers. We then worked on our addition and worked together to find out what 6+4 equals.

Each student filled in the Mr. Turkey poem and pasted it under their turkey.
You could even do this with colors and patterns and asked what kind of pattern they made for example a B pattern or a BB pattern.

Thanksgiving Placemat

On the following website I found cute printables that I turned into cut outs for a placemat for thanksgiving dinner :)

http://www.paperglitter.com/2010/10/free-thanksgiving-fall-kit.html

As a class we make a list of things we are thankful for and I write them on the board. The students then copy down what they want from the list.

These of course got laminated too. Makes it easy to clean off after dinner and use it again year to year :)

Baby wipe turkey's

After the students are done making their handprint turkeys I have them use baby wipes to clean their hands off. They come out looking very colorful in the end! I let the wipes dry over night and then I use an Ellison machine to cut out turkey's from them.

I let the kids use these to decorate a card for their parents.
